Utah Rugby Community Night on Saturday: Letter from GM Kimball Kjar
TO: Utah Rugby Community, April 23,2019
RE: Rugby Community Night, April 27th
Dear Utah Rugby Friends,
As the Utah Warriors prepare to take on the Austin Elite this Saturday at 6pm MT in the MLR Game-of-Week, which will be broadcast live on national TV on the CBS Sports Network, we wanted to invite you to join us for this weekend’s Rugby Community Night.
The Utah Rugby Community is unrivaled in America! And It’s with great excitement that the Utah Warriors are going to celebrate and highlight all of the achievements of our great rugby community, including the youth, high school, collegiate and club ranks.
Utah’s rugby history has many historical influences that make it so unique and distinct. From the early days of our great Polynesian community settling in Iosepa, UT to Highland Rugby’s unrivaled 20 High School National Championships, the roots of rugby community include a rich legacy of home-grown talent and international influences from every rugby-playing country and island of the world.
Utah has seen rugby flourish at the high school, collegiate and club levels. Teams like United, Snow Canyon and Herriman have headlined our youth game recently with many more challenging locally and nationally, like East and Olympus.
BYU, Utah and UVU have all seen their time in the sun on the 15’s and 7s sides on numerous occasions, with the Cougars winning five National Titles, Utah securing a 7s National Title and UVU featuring in recent national championship final.
And the club game continues to develop and grow here locally with the best of the Rugby Utah Men’s Premier Division (MPD) Selects winning back-to-back National 7s Championships in 2016 and 2017, led by local rugby great Ben Nicholls.
In all, we have SO MUCH to be proud of and to celebrate, but there’s just not enough space here to mention it all!
As such, for this Rugby Community Night we’ve offered all registered players and coaches in Utah Youth Rugby, BYU, Utah, UVU, WSU and USU and the Rugby Utah Men’s Premier Division the opportunity to join us and celebrate our rugby community’s unique and exciting past, present and future at halftime of the Utah Warriors vs. Austin Elite game. For details please connect with your respective President or Coach who has been sent the details for this Rugby Community Night event.
We are excited to see you all Saturday night at 6pm! Come early as we are expecting a big crowd and lines to get in will likely be long. Traffic on the South end of Salt Lake Valley is usually pretty busy at that time of day as well. But we know you’ve all showed up when it 28 degrees and in the snow, so we know you’ll be there on Saturday!
Go Utah! Go Warriors!
