Paul Lasike Signs With The Utah Warriors
Salt Lake City, November 3, 2017: The Utah Warriors and Head Coach Alf Daniels are excited to announce the signing of former BYU All-American and NFL Running Back Paul Lasike.
“I’m really excited to get back to Utah and play for Coach Daniels at the Warriors. Growing up, it was always my dream to play rugby professionally, and I never would have guessed it could happen here in America,” said Lasike. “The combine last week really showed that there’s a lot of talent in Utah. I can’t wait to get to work with the boys, and put on that Warrior uniform”.
Lasike played rugby growing up in New Zealand and showed a lot of promise making the Waikato U16 and U18 representative teams. After finishing School at the the Church College of New Zealand, Lasike came to Highland and won a US High School National Championship in 2008 with Coach Larry Gelwix.

Lasike also played rugby at Brigham Young University from 2009-2014 where he earned All-American honors and help lead the cougars to four National Championships. At BYU, his speed and hard running style also caught the attention of the Football team. Lasike walked on, earned a scholarship to play running back for the Cougars, and was named a team Captain his senior year. In 2015 Lasike signed as a free agent with the NFL Chicago Bears, where he played two seasons at fullback.
“Paul is a very dynamic and powerful midfielder,” said Warriors Head Coach, Alf Daniels, “he played a lot of high level rugby growing up, so his skillset has a strong foundation. His experience coming from the NFL environment will help us both on and off the field. Having an athlete with his size, speed and skill is very exciting”.
We are proud to have Paul Lasike stand with us as a Utah Warrior.
