Rugby Utah’s Men’s Premier Division Kickoffs Post-Season Saturday
Salt Lake City, UT–The Men’s Premier Division of Rugby Utah begins it’s postseason play for the Iosepa Shield this weekend, Saturday at Murray Park at 1pm as the top four teams vie for the championship.
The Saturday match-ups begin with Utah Misfits taking on the Salt Lake Gladiators at 1pm. Both teams finished with one loss on the regular season and will challenge for a spot in the final. The Spartan’s Gene Taka and the Misfits’ Samiu Muna will likely feature for both teams.
The second semifinal sees top seed the Salt Lake Gladiators taking on the upstart and improving Antelope Rugby Club from Davis County.
Despite a losing record Antelope are looking forward to challenging the top-seeded Gladiators who feature MPD scoring threat Joe Mano at fullback.
The Misfits Brothers (now Utah Misfits) won the 2018 Iosepa Shield while the Salt Lake Spartans claimed the innaugural MPD Championship.

The Iosepa Shield is named after Utah’s first Polynesian settlement, Iosepa, (or “Joseph”) in harsh West Desert in the late 19th century paying hommage to the significant impact that Utah’s present and past Polynesian community has had on the game of rugby in the Beehive State.
All MPD semifinals will be played at Murray Rugby Field in Murray, UT (5201 Murray Park Ln, Murray, UT 84107). Admission is FREE.
