
Utah Warriors 2019 Summer Touch Rugby League Ends on a High Note
Lehi, UT – 2019 has marked its self as another successful year in the books with the Warriors summer touch rugby league. This year boasts the participation of 11 teams participating in an eleven week season spanning over the summer into the beginning of fall. Over the years our touch rugby league has been engaging the local community and working professionals in creating an environment where health, fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all fun can be appreciated through the sport.

11 Teams over 11 Weeks
The tournament continues to provide a way for working professionals, former and current rugby players and those interested in learning about the sport to have a place to play. Teams participating this year engaged in a tournament round robin format where the top 6 teams would proceed to a single elimination playoff with the first place winners receiving $800 and second place $200. All matches were played at the Five12 Championship field located in the heart of Silicon Slopes.

All matches played follow the official FIT(Federation of International Touch) rules. The tournament is also a open coed tournament that requires a female participant be on the field at all times.
Elimination Round and Playoffs
Teams that progressed through to the playoffs were Thirsty Thursdays – 25pts, Can’t Touch This – 25pts, Vipers Academy – 24pts, All Mixed Up – 21pts, DMBA – 20pts and Rebel Scrum – 18pts. The bottom 4 would play in the quarter-finals round for a chance to progress through to semifinals against the top 2 seeds(Thirsty Thursdays and Can’t Touch This). Losers of the semi-finals would play for 3rd and 4th place while the winners would play for final and championship.

Championship
This year’s championship saw the return of defending champions Can’t Touch This and returning new
contestors Thirsty Thursdays. After a grueling 20 minutes first half, Can’t Touch This lead by 3-2. The first 4 minutes into the second half saw Thirsty Thursdays cross the try line twice to carry the lead and put them past the defending champions. With 7 minutes left to go the defending champions scored 4 unanswered tries to seal their contenders fate winning 9 to 5 and go back to back as 2018 and 2019 champions and winners of the $800 prize money.
