Utah Warriors 2020 Season Schedule Announced
Salt Lake City, UT–The Utah Warriors and Major League Rugby have released their 2020 regular season schedule ahead of the Warriors’ third season participating in the MLR.
The Warriors open the season on the road Sunday, February 9th versus Eastern Conference expansion team ATL Rugby at Life University Stadium with a 1:00PM MST kick-off. The Warriors then host a home match at a neutral site in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 15th versus Eastern Conference expansion team New England Freejacks with a 6:00PM MST kick-off. The Warriors host this match as part of a special MLR 2020 Season Showcase series of neutral-venue matches. The following 3 weeks of play will be on the road versus MLR teams, Austin Herd, Glendale Raptors and 2018 & 2019 MLR Champions, Seattle Seawolves.
The Warriors launch the 2020 Season at home on Saturday, March 14th versus NOLA Gold at Zions Bank Stadium with a 7:00PM MST kick-off. The 2020 Season 7-match home schedule culminates with the Utah Warriors playing the final regular season match at home on Saturday, May 30th versus Houston Sabercats at Zions Bank Stadium with a 7:00PM MST kick-off.
With three new expansion teams set to join the MLR in 2020, in Rugby ATL, the New England Freejacks and DC Glory, and with a new Eastern Conference and Western Conference set up the MLR will feature a number of exciting games for the Warriors in 2020.
Feature matches this season include, 2019 finalists San Diego Legion on March 28th and May 25th (home and away) and the 2018 & 2019 MLR Champions Seattle Seawolves on March 7th and April 25th (away and home).
After finishing with a 2-12-2 record in 2019, Utah Warriors CEO and GM Kimball Kjar said the 2020 season will see the Warriors with a new mindset, coaching staff and team leadership group set to reaffirm the Warriors as an MLR contender.
“We made the playoffs in 2018 and last season was undoubtedly a disappointment for all of us,” Kjar said, “With a new coaching staff to be announced soon, which we’re very excited about, and with some new faces on the roster that we’ll be announcing soon as well, we’re excited about the potential of the speed, power, rugby acumen and size for the Warriors going into 2020. And this 2020 schedule will be a new exciting challenge and an opportunity for this program to improve and showcase those skills.”
