Utah Warriors Announce Jr. Warriors Partnership with Utah Youth Rugby
HERRIMAN, UT (Jan. 6, 2022) – The Utah Warriors and Utah Youth Rugby have announced a groundbreaking partnership to create a Jr. Warriors Youth Rugby League in order to teach the fundamentals of rugby to youth throughout the state of Utah
“Having a professional rugby team in Utah is a significant element for the growth of rugby,” said Utah Youth Rugby Executive Director Mark Numbers. ”As we have partnered with the Utah Warriors in the creation of the Jr Warriors touch rugby league, a real win/win opportunity to help youth rugby grow is in motion. The Jr. Warriors league will be a fun and inviting way to introduce rugby to both players and parents. We are extremely excited about this partnership.”
The Jr. Warriors season will start on April 12, 2022 and run through May 14, 2022. The league will be co-ed with athletes between the ages of five and twelve with games featuring seven players on the field per team. Participants in the Jr. Warriors program will play for their local community organization and be associated with a local high school rugby team.
“The Jr. Warriors league creates an opportunity for all youth to be properly introduced to the sport of rugby,” said Jr. Warriors Manager Ashlee Byrge, a former USA Eagle. “Our focus is on inclusivity and teaching the fundamentals of the game in a safe and fun environment. We want to create a bridge between the community and the Utah Warriors and what better way than to get kids playing rugby.”

In addition to player registration, parents, guardians and other adults interested in coaching in the Jr. Warriors League can register as coaches at the Jr. Warriors website. Jr. Warriors’ coaches will complete two 20-minute Jr. Warriors’ coaching introduction programs along with a standard background check. Both the trainings and the background check will come at no cost to the parent, guardians or other adults who will serve as Jr. Warriors coaches.
“We are excited to be able to provide parents and other volunteers in the community with a platform to learn and be provided with all the tools necessary to coach a Jr. Warriors team,” said Byrge. “We have established a simple curriculum to take any volunteer, regardless of their previous rugby background, and make them a great rugby coach.”
Participants in Jr. Warriors will receive one ticket to a 2022 Utah Warriors home game, a rugby ball as well as reversible team jersey included in their registration fee.
Parents who are interested in registering their children for Jr. Warriors, or registering as a coach, can visit jr.warriorsrugby.com to sign up.
