Utah Warriors Receive Letter of Commendation From Governor Spencer Cox
Several players and staff from the Utah Warriors were honored to visit the Utah State Capitol on Tuesday, October 12 to receive a letter of commendation from Governor Spencer Cox, the 18th Governor of Utah, recognizing the Warriors’ 2021 season.
The Warriors completed a successful 2021 campaign by reaching in the MLR Western Conference Finals before falling in a nail-biter to the eventual MLR Champion, LA Giltinis. In addition to the team’s second playoff appearance, the Warriors finished with a record of 10-6, the most wins in a single season and the team’s first winning record since they began play in 2018.
As part of the event, Governor Cox recognized Warriors’ Head Coach Shawn Pittman as the recipient of the Major League Rugby Coach of the Year Award. Pittman, who took over as the interim Head Coach for the Utah Warriors for the 2021 season, coached Major League Rugby’s second-highest scoring offense as the Warriors tallied 519 points on the season. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, the Utah Warriors dropped the interim tag, bringing him on as the team’s Head Coach.

In his first season with the Warriors, Te’o led the league with 1,556 running metres and 173 carried metres while playing 1,223 minutes in 16 games for the Warriors. Additionally, Te’o finished the season with nine tries scored, second-most for Utah.
The Warriors will celebrate their five-year anniversary when they begin the 2022 season. Fans can purchase tickets to see the Warriors in action in 2022 here.
