
Warriors Conclude 2019 Season With Four-Point Loss
(Herriman, Utah ) – The Utah Warriors concluded the 2019 season with a loss to the Houston SaberCats, with the final score of 31-27. Both Utah and Houston are out of MLR playoff contention and will start their off-season and 2020 preparations immediately. The Warriors finish 2-12-2 on the season and will finish in 8th place in the league while the SaberCats finish in 7th place for the season.
Scoring for the Warriors included Jeremy Leber in the 27′, followed by back to back tries with Johnny Ika at the 43′ mark and then Joshua Reeves at the 46′ mark. The Warriors added penalty kicks by Reeves 12′, and Franco van den Berg in the 60′ which gave the Warriors the lead. The SaberCats scored the winning try in the 65′ and made the conversion.

The Warriors end the season with 354 total points scored, with 47 tries being scored and 486 points given up.
“This game is indicative of our season, we competed but just could not close it. We will get to work right away on the off-season on training, conditioning, and how we approach the new teams in the league and conference alignments. We appreciate our fans and everything they did to stay with us all season, we have the best fans in the league without question” said Head Coach Alf Daniels after the game.
The total attendance for the match was 3,380. As of right now, the Utah Warriors rank 2nd in the league in average attendance per match, behind the Seattle Seawolves.
The MLR Playoffs begin next weekend and will conclude on Sunday, June 16th at the highest ranking team’s home field. It is anticipated that the 2020 Major League Rugby season will begin in February of 2020, with expansion teams in Boston, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
