WARRIORS EARN FIRST LEAGUE WIN OVER AUSTIN ELITE 44-21
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAHÂ – The Utah Warriors posted their first league victory by a score of 41-22 over the Austin Elite. Kurt Morath led all scorers with 11 points.
In a bizarre twist of events, Jared Whippy fractured his lower left leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His twin brother Josh Whippy suffered the same fracture in the last home match. Both are expected to be out for the season both for the Warriors and the Fijian National Team.
“This is a bittersweet win for our team, we are saddened by the loss of Jared and Josh. But we will rebound as a team. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families and we will be by their side.” said Head Coach Alf Daniels.
After trailing 22-7 at the half, Austin made an interesting match of it, scoring quickly in the second half and to get within five points and under ten minutes remaining. The Warriors then scored back-to-back tries to finish the game.
“This match was a good pay-off for a lot of hard work by our team, its a sign of good things to come.” said Team Captain Jared Lasike.
The Warriors face a strong Seattle team next week on the road, followed by matches at New Orleans and Austin. The Warriors will have two additional home league matches to finish the season including the following:
June 16 vs New Orleans 2:00pm
June 23 vs Houston 2:00pm
