WARRIORS MOVE TO 1-1 AFTER A TOUGH LOSS TO 3-1 SAN DIEGO
Legion scores 18 in the first half and hold lead to take the win
(San Diego, California) – Joe Pietersen and Devin Short led the San Diego Legion to a 21 to 10 win over the Utah Warriors today at Torero Field in San Diego. The Warriors were led by Angus Maclellan who scored the only try for the Warriors. The Warriors are now (1-1) and the Legion is now (3-1) on the season. The two teams will play again in Salt Lake City on Saturday, May 18th at Zions Bank Stadium.
When asked about the match Coach Alf Daniels said, “We were a little slow to get into the match, we had too many mistakes and poor decisions at crucial times. San Diego played well and made the most of their opportunities. We are building and will be better next week against Glendale.”
The Legion was first on the board with a JP Duplessis try in the 18th minute followed by a Joe Pietersen conversion. Pietersen added another kick minutes later to grow the lead to 10-0. Tim O’Malley scored for the Warriors with a penalty kick after a series of phases taking the match to 10-3.

Penalties hurt the Warriors all day, and after a call for not releasing in the breakdown, Pietersen scored a penalty goal pushing the lead to 13-3. Devin Short added another try late in the first half but Pietersen missed the conversion kick taking the teams to 18-3 at the half.
Angus Maclellan scored the Warriors only try of the game in the second half, with O’Malley making the conversion. Fets Vainikolo sparked the Warriors offense with a long-run off an interception but was stopped by Man of the Match, Devin Short. The Warriors defended the try line well on multiple occasions but another penalty gave Pietersen a chance to put the game away with a penalty kick and final 21-10 score.

The Warriors have 14 more matches to play in the regular season including a three game home stand starting next Saturday. The Warriors move to seventh in overall point table standings with four points while the Legion are in second place with 13 points.
The Warriors first home match of the season is Saturday, February 23rd staring at 7:00 PM Mountain Standard Time versus the Glendale Raptors. The Raptors are currently 2-0 and facing Austin in today’s evening match.
All matches are played at Zions Bank Stadium located at 14787 Academy Parkway, Herriman Utah, 84096.
