Warriors on the road to play San Diego Legion at Torero Stadium
(Salt Lake City, Utah) – The Utah Warriors of Major League Rugby face the San Diego Legion this Sunday, February 17 at Torero Stadium. This will be the second league match of the season for the Warriors (1-0) and the fourth match of the season for the Legion (2-1). The first home match for the Warriors will be held on Saturday, February 23rd beginning at 7:00 pm at the Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.
The Sunday match starts at 3:00 PM MST and can be watched locally on KMYU-TV Channel 22 and online at ESPN+.
The Warriors face a tough match-up in the Legion this week. San Diego will be concluding a four-game home stand and have defeated 2018 MLR Champion, the Seattle Seawolves and a very tough Houston Sabercats team. “We will need everything we’ve got to beat a very good San Diego team. They have two more matches under their belt and return some exceptional players. We are up for the challenge and believe we match up well” said Warriors Head Coach Alf Daniels.
In a roster change-up, Josh Reeves will replace Mitre 10 player James Semple at the number 10 position. And coming off a season-ending injury last year, Josh Whippy will replace John Ika at the 15 position. Gannon Moore, Blake Burdette and Jackson Kaka will make their debuts as reserves for the Warriors. The Warriors will start Tonata Lauti (Wing), the 2018 league leader in trys and Fetu’u Vainikolo (Wing), Tonga’s all-time leading try scorer. Coming off of the victory at Austin, the Warriors will also start Lance Williams (Flanker) and Ara Elkington (Openside Flanker) who both scored trys in the match. Captain Tim O’Malley (Flyhalf) who provided seven points last match should provide continued offensive power for the Warriors.
