Warriors Provide Sporting Fun For A Good Cause
Team partners with NFL great Haloti Ngata to generate funds for educational foundation
(Salt Lake City, Utah) – The Utah Warriors and Haloti Ngata, the 5-time NFL Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the Baltimore Ravens, teamed up on April Fool’s Day in an effort to raise awareness of the Haloti Ngata Family Foundation which helps under served high school students matriculate to higher education. The Warriors announced, with Haloti’s approval that he had signed a player contract with the team for the 2019 season. The response and coverage was instant and worldwide, including inquiries and posts from rugby and sports publications nationally and internationally.
Ngata released a statement via twitter this evening thanking and giving more detail on his partnership with the Warriors,
“We had a lot of fun today, April 1st, talking about me signing with the Utah Warriors Professional Rugby team. While I love rugby, I’m not actually playing on the team but the Warriors are making a donation to the Haloti Ngata Family Foundation at this Friday’s match! For everyone including my tokos and usos (slang for brother/sibling) who attend, buys tickets or merchandise the Warriors will donate to my family foundation, which in honor of my mother, helps underserved high school students take college entrance exams and prepare for college and trade education. Much love to all my friends, family, rugby fans and press out there for being good sports today! Go Warriors and Ofa Atu (Tongan for Love You All).”
General Manager of the Utah Warriors, Kimball Kjar has been amazed by the inquiries and public input to this story, “We have been overwhelmed with the quantity of calls, emails and texts from fans, family members and sports media from around the world asking about this announcement. We want it to all transfer to something viable for the foundation to work with.”
Fans can visit Warrior Tickets and enter the code: HALOTI to receive 2-for-1 priced tickets to the match on Friday, April 5th at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. Part of the proceeds from all ticket and merchandise sales this week will be donated to the Haloti Ngata Family Foundation.
ABOUT THE HALOTI NGATA FAMILY FOUNDATION:
The Ngatas created the Ofa Ngata College Preparation Fund in 2015. This fund, operated in partnership with our friends, the Salt Lake Education Foundation, is used to carry on the vision of Haloti’s late-mother, Ofa, by providing college-preparation resources to high school students in the Salt Lake City School District. The fund has provided ACT preparation classes for over 600 students since its inception.
In 2017, Ngata was awarded the NFL’s highest off-field honor for active players the Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work in giving back to his home community and education.
