Salt Lake City, February 16, 2018: Warriors sign USA Eagles prop Angus Maclellan.
“I am excited to be a part of the Warriors program and make the move out to beautiful Utah,” said MacLellan. “I’ll join the team following the ARC but it’s great to be able to train with some of my Warriors teammates here in Eagles camp. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to focus more on rugby and be a part of what they’re building in Utah”.
Growing up in Northern Michigan, MacLellan began playing rugby in high school with the Traverse City Alliance. In College, MacLellan attended Davenport University where, as Captain, he lead the Panthers to back to back D1 AA National Championships in 2011 and 2012.
MacLellan earned All-American honors in College and was also a part of the USA U20’s team that won the World Rugby U20 Trophy, a tournament held at Murray Park, Utah back in the summer of 2012.
In 2014 MacLellan was called up to the USA Selects for the Americas Rugby Championship and made his USA Eagles debut in April 2016 against Italy. Angus MacLellan is Eagle number 493.
“Angus will add some great experience to our front row,” said Warriors Head Coach, Alf Daniels. “There are only a handful of guys in America who have scrummed at the International level, so we are fortunate to have Angus in the mix. He’s a strong man who puts in a lot of work around the field. He’s definitely not one to take days off and isn’t scared to get his hands dirty. We look forward to seeing him continue to progress here at the Warriors.”
