Warriors Tie With 2nd Place Seawolves
(Seattle, Washington) – The Seattle Seawolves have led Major League Rugby as the top scoring team in the last twenty minutes of each match on average and proved it again tonight by scoring 10 points in the final 14 minutes to tie the Utah Warriors, 27-27 in front of a sold-out home crowd. The Warriors drop to (2-11-2) and sit in 8th place in league standings while the Seawolves move to (10-4-1) and currently sit in a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the league standings. All league teams are in action next week where the final four playoff teams will be determined.
The Warriors started the match fast and built a solid lead, including a break-away try by Fetu’u Vainikolo in the 37′ to go into halftime with a 27-17 lead. The second half proved to be a defensive battle until the Seawolves scored a try in the 66′ to bring the match to 27-24 with the conversion. And then in the 76′ Brandon Staller of the Seawolves notched the matched with a penalty kick. The Warriors would make a run to the try line but came up short in reclaiming the lead.

Commenting on another close loss, Coach Alf Daniels said, “We played to our potential today and it is always tough when that effort ends in a tie. Our performance and effort matched everything Seattle could throw at us. I was very proud of our boys today. Just a couple of little things to fix and we would have gotten a good win. Looking forward to hosting Houston at home next week.”
The Warriors have lost 4 games by 2 points in each match, and of course have 2 draws this season.
The Warriors last game of the season will be at home this upcoming Saturday, June 1st against the Houston SaberCats starting at 6:00 PM MST and will be the CBS Sports Network Game of the Week. (Photos: Vince Miller/Pallyup River Courier)
