Arawa Elkington was born and raised in Hamilton, New Zealand. He has been playing rugby since his elementary school days, showing a lot of promise and making multiple-age grade representative teams along the way. While at the Church College of New Zealand, Elkington made the Waikato U-14, U-15, U- 17 and U-19 provincial teams, capping off his high-school rugby career as captain of the CCNZ 1st XV, under Coach Alf Daniels.
After spending a season in Utah playing for Highland, Elkington went on a 2-year service mission in Fresno, California , before moving back to Provo to attend BYU. At BYU, Elkington became a First team All- America and Captain, winning multiple championships.
Elkington is married to Ivy and they have a son, Te Kanawa. Elkington has graduated from BYU and is a facility planner for L3 Technology.
