Arawa Elkington, a third-year openside flanker for the Utah Warriors, was born and raised in Hamilton, New Zealand. He has been playing rugby since his elementary school days, showing a lot of promise and making multiple age grade representative teams along the way. While at the Church College of New Zealand, he made the Waikato U14, U15, U17 and U19 provincial teams, capping off his high school rugby career as captain of the CCNZ 1st XV under coach Alf Daniels.
After spending a season in Utah playing for the Highland Rugby Club, Elkington went on a two-year service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fresno, California. Upon his return, he moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University. At BYU, he became a first team All-American and captain, winning two national championships in 2013 and 2014.
Elkington graduated from BYU and is currently a facility planner for L3harris. He is married to his wife Ivy, and they have a son named Te Kanawa and daughter named Kōhia.
