Kurt was born in Auckland, New Zealand and like most kiwis, dreamed of becoming a professional rugby player. As a teen he played for Hamilton Boys High School and impressed at the representative level for Taranaki, eventually making the New Zealand u21 squad in 2005. After two seasons playing in the Mitre 10 Cup, Kurt took his talents to Spain where he played for Seville and caught the attention of Tongan selectors. In November 2009, he made his International debut for Tonga and has since played in two Rugby World Cups, 31 tests and is the Tongan all-time highest points scorer. Most recently he played in France with Biarrtiz Olympique and in Japan with Tokyo Gas. Kurt is married and has two daughters who are back in New Zealand.
